First of all, you\u2019re not alone<\/strong> – many couples are in the same spot. The Church has something beautiful for this exact situation called a convalidation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Does the Church Offer It?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In simple terms, marriage is meant to be a Sacrament for baptized Catholics. If you got married outside the Church without a dispensation, the Church doesn\u2019t see it as a Sacramental Marriage yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Convalidation is basically saying, \u201cLet\u2019s bring this marriage fully into the Church so that it can be blessed and strengthened by God\u2019s grace.\u201d It\u2019s not<\/strong> saying your marriage \u201cdoesn\u2019t count\u201d or that you\u2019re starting over – it\u2019s really about completing it spiritually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
